Global Engagement Certificate
Congratulations on completing your study abroad and welcome back to the Hilltop! Since being back, you may be wondering how to apply your study abroad experience to your life at home. The Global Engagement (GE) Certificate is designed to help students harness their study abroad experience and continue their engagement in global arenas after their return home to the Hilltop. You will complete activities or workshops in five categories (professional development, social justice, community, service, and intercultural) that will guide you toward becoming global citizens. You will then submit documentation - or reflections - through this Canvas course for the program in order to track your progress toward completion.

Complete the Merits
Merit professional development, social justice, community, service, and intercultural development.
X
There are two paths to completing these merits. You will choose one path from the two options below.
X
Path 1: Reflection Essay
-
What you submit:
-
Proof of participation for each merit
-
One Reflection Essay for all of the merits
-
What are those?
-
Proof of participation: varies based on each merit you are completing; view the Canvas assignments for each merit to view what is an acceptable form of documentation.
-
Reflection Essay: some prompts are provided in the assignment; the objective is to articulate how you have been globally engaged SINCE you have returned from studying abroad. Include the five merits in your response.
-
Timeline:
-
Submit your proof of participation within one week of completing each merit.
-
Submit the reflection essay once completed (at latest, Dec. 1 or May 1 of each semester)
- It is recommended that you build on this essay soon after completing each merit. Doing this all at the end of the semester will likely not result in a satisfactory reflection essay. Give yourself time to create something you are proud of and is a good summary of how you have continued to live out your study abroad experience.
Path 2: Creative Project Reflection
-
What you submit:
-
Proof of participation for each merit
- One creative project proposal
-
One creative project encompassing all five merits
-
What are those?
-
Proof of participation: varies based on each merit you are completing; view the Canvas assignments for each merit to view what is an acceptable form of documentation.
-
Creative Project Proposal: to do a creative project, please submit your proposed assignment to "Creative Project Proposal" in the Canvas assignments
-
Creative Project: instead of doing a reflection essay, you can do a creative project that incorporates all five merits.
-
Examples: a poster; photo diary; art (painting, collage, graphic design); video; or journal project.
- Great option for students who want to add to their professional portfolio!
-
Timeline:
-
Submit proof of participation within one week of attendance.
- Submit the creative project once completed (at latest, Dec. 1 or May 1 of each semester)
- It is recommended that you build on this project soon after completing each merit. Doing this all at the end of the semester will likely not result in a satisfactory creative project. Give yourself time to create something you are proud of and is a good summary of how you have continued to live out your study abroad experience.
